Joshua House summer workcamp

Looking at a possible mission trip next year to Stubenville, OH, a native of Stubenville told me about a neat program there called JOSHUA (“Journeys Of Service Helping Upper Appalachia”) House. Seems the community saw the need of improving the housing conditions in the area they developed this program to bring youth and young adults from arounf the country in to help. While I was thinking of working with Youthworks again this is an intriquing program.

Very light jets ( VLJ)

Today in the Star Tribune's business section there was a short article about VLJ's very light jets. I was curious about these and did some research, here are some things I found.

The most intriquing thing about VLJ's is the concept of air taxi serivce they offer. One company that has embraced this concept is Linear Air.

The picture above is of an Eclipse 500 one of the first VLJ's to be tested for FAA ceritification.

Light Rail in the Twin CIites

It took the Twin Cities too long to realize the benefits of going back to rails as an effective means of public transportation. Seems every city that adds light Rail sees ridership/demand exceed expectations, here is information about success here in the Twin Cities.. Two years after the Hiawatha line began service, the Met Council this week approved expansion of light rail. The new line will connect Minneapolis and St. Paul and could be running by 2014. Lets hope that additional expansion does not wait until 2014. An editiorial in the Startribune the other day suggested going to three car trains up from the existing two car trains.

Web/computer stuff

While it is not in the title of this blog and not one of my original main topics for this blog, I will from time to time have posts about cool web stuff or computer tips I run across. I will try not to let my MAC bias too appparent.

RSS feeds

Sometime ago when I started getting into blogs, I heard about RSS feeds and wondered what they were. If you are not familiar with RSS feeds, they are a way to be updated via an email/RSS reader program when blogs have new posts. I use Thunderbird an open source ( I will explain open source later) from Mozilla. it is available for both pc's and Mac's ( not that Macs have intel inside and run windows, wonder if will need new terms). misc. ramblings about blogs and web stuff

Still being new to this blog thing sometimes it takes me a while to do a post with links and all. I had a great post about Auburn football, but forgot to save it or publish it before moving on, so it disapeared in cyber space. I wil recreate a similar post at another time.

One tip for passing on links to others, espically via email is: when you have a long url or web address that is computed generated, you can shrink it before passing it on. One site that a parentat church clued me in on is tinyurl.com it is so easy to use, try it.
